Charlotte's 2nd Birthday Beach Bash

Recently we celebrated my second daughter's 2nd birthday with a fun "beach bash."  Originally I wanted to do a cowgirl/western theme (and probably will next year), but at the last minute changed our theme because we decided to book our favorite park for the party, and it's nautical themed with play structures that look like big ships.  Since I was also being mindful of a small budget,  I decided I wouldn't have to do much decorating if I used this as our theme.  Charlotte also loves the water, and with a May birthday we were ready to kick off summer with this fun theme.  Of course, it rained (and hailed!) buckets on the day of the party and our beach bash was forced indoors.  Oh well.

Princess Party

Our first featured party is a party that I (Kessler) planned for my daughter Ava's third birthday last summer.  This was the first year that Ava had an opinion about her party, and she insisted on a pink, princess-y affair.
Planning this party was quite the challenge, as I was in my first trimester of pregnancy with my third daughter.  It was hard to find the motivation to do it, but at the very last minute and on a small budget, things came together.

It wasn't in the budget to splurge on a cake, so I bought (some of the most delicious) plain cupcakes from Servatti's Pastry Shop & Deli, added cupcake toppers that coordinated with our invitation and a feather boa--voila!

The party was held at lunchtime and I made up a few party trays, my mother-in-law's homemade potato salad and picked up a Bavarian pretzel sandwich from Servatti's - yum!

Princess lollipops

Pink feather boas, ribbon wands and paper crowns for all the little princesses who came to our party.

The feather boas and ribbon wands were purchased from Halo Heaven--cheap prices and great service for bulk party goods, costumes, etc.  The paper crowns were purchased from Hobby Lobby--I love the paper crowns versus the plastic bling tiaras--I thought they had shabby chic flare.

"Enchanted Bubble Bath" favors.  I got this idea from another mommy blogger and loved that it fit our girly theme but was also something the boys in attendance could use.  Bottles and sponges were purchased in the sample bins at Target, then filled with Johnson's Bedtime Bubble Bath and tied off with a favor tag that coordinated with our theme.
